Will
your New Year’s Resolution include nutrition and exercise

to prepare for success with your resolution. This is the first
of a series of four newsletters to help you prepare for better
health and weight management in 2010.
New
Year: New You! Getting Ready for a Happy and Healthy 2010
| 1. |
Set
goals. Do you want to lose weight? Make sure to
choose a realistic goal weight. Have diabetes? You may want
to work on improving blood sugars or how often you monitor
your blood sugar. 2010 might be the year to consider an insulin
pump for improved blood glucose control. High cholesterol?
Aim for a heart healthy diet. Need more energy? Your diet
might need more balance. Spend 20 minutes thinking about
your health issues, weight, and how you feel. Set goals based
on your findings. |

| 2. |
Explore
exercise options. Check out your local Parks and
Recreation department for affordable exercise classes. Start
a walking club in your area. Use a pedometer and aim for
10,000 steps a day. If you have knee or back problems, water
exercise at the YMCA or a local gym might be your best bet.
Look at prices and compare. By starting now, you can have
a plan for the first of the year, and may be able to take
advantage of promotional prices before the January rush. |

Team
with a friend. Share recipes and walk together.
Attend exercise class together. Hire a personal trainer and
split the cost. Research has shown that people who work as
a team and have support have more success with eating healthy
and losing weight. Perhaps people at work would be interested
in walking during a lunch break, or bringing an exercise
class on site. |
Print
this sheet and hang it on the refrigerator for a reminder of the
steps that you need to take this week to get ready for the New Year!
