Find
an expert. Making changes in eating habits is not
an easy task. You need a resource to help get you on track.
Consider meeting with a Registered Dietitian. Find one near
you at www.eatright.org.
Check your insurance coverage for nutrition counseling by
calling the 1-800# on the back of your insurance card and
ask about your nutrition benefit (code 97802). No nutrition
benefit? Consider your HSA/FSA for reimbursement. Weight
Watcher’s is an affordable program at around $12/week,
and also has an online option. Web based nutrition information
is popular and convenient, just make sure that a Registered
Dietitian is involved at some level so that you are getting
accurate information. www.sparkpeople.com and www.calorieking.com are
helpful websites to investigate. |

Portion
Control. For many American’s, portion control
is the hardest part of a healthy eating plan. We often consume
more calories than we realize. Escali sells kitchen scales
with a data base of 999 foods-just put your food on the scale
and view the calorie, fat, carbohydrate content and more
on the digital screen. Visit www.escali.com and
enter promo code NNCHE1 for a 15% discount and free shipping. |

Start
Reading. Become familiar with the nutrition content
of the foods you are eating by looking them up in the newly
revised 2010 Calorie King Book. Calorie King includes nutrition
information for all of the chain and fast food restaurants
so that you can make the healthiest choices. Calorie King
also offers a pocket size Food Journal. Research studies
have shown that people who keep a food diary lose more weight
even if they are not provided with a meal plan. Recording
food intake increases awareness. Visit ww.calorieking.com for
affordable and easy to use tools such as these. Visit www.drjo.com for
dining out books written by a Registered Dietitian. You will
be surprised at what you will learn about how restaurants
prepare their foods, and will learn how to watch for hidden
calories. |
Print
this sheet and hang it on the refrigerator for a reminder of the
steps that you need to take this week to get ready for the New Year!
